Bath House Meadow is a PiPA designed inclusive play area, providing a much-needed destination play space for all ages and abilities. This project evolved from a unique opportunity for Tendring District Council to access funding especially to create an inclusive play area that had to provide a wide range of activities that a regular playground couldn’t ordinarily offer.
Jupiter Play’s vision captures the beach feel (which is only 100m across the road!) by bringing the character of the vast beach hut village and the pier both located a short distance away in Walton-on-the-Naze.  During the scoping of the design, it was agreed that a key standout feature needed to be created that would allow all children to experience height and opportunity for accessing dynamic and sensory play and so the bespoke pier structure evolved from the design process. The colour scheme reflects the colour palette of the beach huts and the Changing Places changing rooms to add character and create a sense of belonging to the locality.

Sensory play is a hugely important aspect of inclusive design and the beach theme allowed us to bring in sand to offer this valuable sensory experience in a safe and playful environment, featuring accessible items such as the sand play digger and the open boat entrance. The entire space is complemented with a range of other sensory activities to fulfil the six senses of inclusive play that Jupiter Play work with to ensure we deliver true inclusion for all children.
