Symmington Rec, Market Harborough

Harborough District Council had a vision was to create an activity trail for children and young people to feel as though they were high up in the trees and experience a sense of challenge and risk. Retaining as much of the vegetation as possible was an important factor to ensure it still kept a very natural feel.

The main challenge was how to develop an area on such a steep embankment and being able to manage the installation and health and safety issues for such a challenging site. With careful planning with our partners at FHS and our contracts team we were able to create a very rustic feel to the space, using large timbers and forked posts to stay in keeping with the tree-lined area.

“The project brief that we gave Jupiter was, I’m sure, one of the most difficult that they have come across, but their designs were excellent & delivery was equally impressive.” John Parrot, Play Officer, Harborough District Council Community Services
