The Beecraigs project was a historical one for us at Jupiter Play. Both our MD Michael and Senior Designer Anne had worked on the project in the past, providing natural timber play equipment that paired well with the sites setting. However, after 13 years the original pine equipment had served its purpose and required a more durable replacement piece of equipment.
This formed the basis of West Lothian Councils tender, to replace the existing unit with a robust, unique and durable timber multiplay unit along with a selection of other complimenting pieces around the site. Jupiter Play formed the perfect partner for this, with its market leading FHS Robinia, bespoke capability and design approach.

Our concept revolved around creating a character for the play area through bespoke carvings and playable elements, creating a space that lived up to its name through a Bee themed bespoke unit. We ensured the replacement piece encompassed all the play elements previously found on the removed play unit whilst providing new and exciting opportunities not found anywhere else on site. This unique approach and attention to detail helped us secure the project and continue our longstanding relationship with West Lotian Council.
We partnered with Playscapes Scotland to ensure our install went smoothly and without issue. This also included the bespoke built on site ‘Badger Hide’ in which we provided our FHS Robinia for Playscapes to construct a piece like no other. The icing on the cake, a hand carved badger provided by FHS which brings this area to life.
At every stage of the process we reflected on what the site was and what the site meant to the local community. We aimed to provide something unique and fun for the space whilst being considerate of its natural surroundings and needs of the community. We feel we have achieved this goal, creating an outstanding space that has enhanced both the play and natural elements offered in the area. Furthermore we can rest easy knowing the space will be enjoyed by all users for many generations to come!
