Funding was granted by Dumfries & Galloway Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery, and it was necessary to keep the design tied to its historical routes and surrounding location. Jupiter Play worked in collaboration with Ironside Farrar to design elements and select pieces like the FHS ship to tie in with the riverside location. The project group also had a focus to make the scheme as inclusive as possible and with Jupiter Play’s experience in inclusive design we’re able to provide expert advice on selecting a range of sensory pieces and equipment that would engage all visitors. Material choice was very important to the client, who were looking for both a natural look but needed assurances of long term sustainability, which is why only the FHS Robinia timber and complimentary steel products could be used.
The Park was opened with a Royal seal of approval in May 2014 with the visit from The Earl and Countess of Wessex and is now in use alongside a variety of other new facilities in the area. Dock park is now 8 years old and is still getting lots of use and looks fantastic!
