Harborough District Council vision for Symmington Recreation ground was to create an activity trail for children and young people to feel as though they were high up in the trees and experience a sense of challenge and risk. Retaining as much of the vegetation as possible was an important factor to ensure it still kept a very natural feel.
The main challenge was how to develop an area on such a steep embankment and being able to manage the installation and health and safety issues for such a challenging site. With careful planning with our partners at FHS and our contracts team, we were able to create a very rustic feel to the space, using large timbers and forked posts to stay in keeping with the tree-lined area.
